The Fall church season is ramping up, and we have a lot going on at First Baptist. These are very exciting times.
When we met as a team at the end of 2014, one of the recurring themes was the discussion of our current curriculum. Some were enjoying it, but some were bored with it, and others confused by it. So I’ve been on a quest to find a common ground that will help us all grow together while working well with the “personality” of each class.
Apparently, the folks at Lifeway are on the same page. This fall, thousands of Southern Baptist churches are beginning a new study called “The Gospel Project: Chronological”. This is a 3-year study through the stories of the Bible in the order that it all happened. And the theme across the board is how every story points back to Jesus and the gospel.
Another benefit to this new study is that it is consistent across all age groups, from preschool through adults. Each week, every class in the church studies the same story.
So we have made the decision to adopt this new study beginning with the Fall Quarter which begins September 6. We have ordered all the Leader Guides for all of our class leaders, and we will have them available for you this Sunday. We want you to take a few days to familiarize yourself with the study. You’ll find that the format is familiar, and that there are plenty of resources and opportunities to “go deeper” as you see fit. If after spending some time with it you have questions, please contact me.
I’ve put together some resources to help you get started so you can kick off the Fall season well with your class. There are two secure websites that you can use to view the curriculum online as well as access additional teaching resources that go beyond what is available in the book.
- Team Access pages on our own church website, monckscorner.church/team-access. If you’re reading this, you’ve already figured this out! I’ve set these up to be a central point of communication for us with resources that will help equip you for ministry, including links to digital versions of the curriculum. There are links to the right that will be of help to you.
- My Curriculum Manager which is provided by Lifeway at mcm.lifeway.com. This is the website where you can directly access digital content for The Gospel Project that will help you prepare you lessons and enhance your presentation. There are videos, maps, and other items right at your fingertips. NOTE: To access this site you’ll need to click the link that you received or will receive from Lifeway.
- If you have any trouble at all accessing these resources, please contact me.
We are very excited about this new teaching opportunity. Jesus Christ is the center of all of our stories, so we will all benefit by exploring the journey of Scripture together in a way that points out how the Gospel is evident in every story in it.
So be sure to pick up your Leader’s Guide this Sunday from the Sunday School office, but feel free to go ahead and explore the resources above to get a head start. And also check out these two videos below which will give you an overview of what The Gospel Project is all about.
